Becoming a volunteer is a significant time commitment. But it can also be one of the most rewarding decisions of your life.
In order to become a volunteer firefighter you must meet the following criteria:
- 18 years or older
- In good physical health
- Pass Firefighter 101 course. This 104-hour classroom- and practicum-based course teaches you the basics of how to become a volunteer firefighter. It features five weeks of classes held in a “week on, week off” format.
- The final includes a written and hands on test.
- Pass different requirements required by your local fire department, including drills, responding to a certain percentage of the department’s annual fire calls, and participating in a predetermined number of annual fire drills.
We also have room on our team for younger members of the community with an interest in learning about modern fire service principles, procedures, techniques and equipment. Each of our 12 departments is looking for Explorers (ages 14 and up) and junior firefighters (ages 16 and up).
